This paper focuses on the resource utilization technology of converting domestic waste into high-quality organic fertilizer via aerobic fermentation with ePTFE semi-permeable membrane. Domestic waste is rich in biodegradable organic components, which is a superior raw material for producing bio-organic fertilizer, whereas traditional open aerobic composting suffers from odor pollution, heat dissipation, nutrient loss and immature compost products, restricting the resource recycling of domestic waste.

The hydrophobic ePTFE semi-permeable microporous membrane with 0.2-0.4μm uniform pore size is adopted to cover the fermentation pile tightly. Relying on its selective gas permeability, the membrane allows oxygen and water vapor to pass through smoothly to support the growth and aerobic metabolism of thermophilic decomposing microbes, which accelerates the degradation of protein, cellulose and polysaccharide in domestic waste. Meanwhile, it blocks ammonia gas, hydrogen sulfide and other odor pollutants, as well as organic leachate, avoiding secondary environmental pollution and nitrogen nutrient loss during fermentation.

The membrane-covered closed system maintains constant high temperature inside the waste pile steadily, killing harmful bacteria, parasite eggs and miscellaneous microbes thoroughly to realize harmless treatment of raw materials. It greatly shortens the compost maturation period, and promotes the humification of organic matter efficiently. Finally, stable, odor-free and high-humus organic fertilizer is obtained after complete aerobic fermentation.

Compared with conventional composting methods, ePTFE membrane aerobic fermentation improves the organic matter content and fertilizer efficiency of finished organic fertilizer remarkably. The finished fertilizer features loose texture, high activity of beneficial microorganisms and excellent soil improvement performance, which can be widely used in garden planting, farmland soil remediation and greening projects. This green recycling technology realizes waste-to-resource conversion of domestic waste, meeting low-carbon environmental protection and circular agricultural development demands.
